About Katie

Katie is a Ph.D. student at the University of Tasmania.
Situated in the University of Tasmania’s College of Arts, Law, and Education, Katie has returned to study after a decade spent working in the social services sector across areas including community development, advocacy, and human rights policy.
Katie’s research incorporates elements of co-design, environmental communication, and asset-based community development, and she is excited to explore how these play a role in participatory marine and Antarctic governance. Katie recently submitted her thesis and is currently awaiting examiner reports.
Water – the colder the better – plays a big part in Katie’s life, and she feels downright chuffed to spend much of her free time swimming up and down the Derwent River in Hobart. She has a deep and abiding obsession with the coastlines of the southern parts of the world and hopes to swim as many of them as possible over the course of her research.
