New paper out: Sectoral interplay as a challenge to marine ecosystem-based management

My most recently published paper, which you can find here, explores human challenges to operationalising marine ecosystem-based management.

My colleague, Marcus Haward, and I found that there are four key challenges to 'sectoral interplay' which are hindering our ability to manage the marine environment in a holistic way: i) deficient governance mechanisms and structures; ii) failures of communication and sharing; iii) issues around particiapation and exclusion; and iv) institutional fragmentation. These are all hangovers from the traditional sectoral approach to managing the marine environment and lead to mismatches in ocean governance.

If we can fully understand, and resolve the challenges we have identified, questions mismatch are likely to be addressed.
